After breaking a ten-match losing streak to University Heights Academy last fall, the Christian County Lady Colonels have now won the last three matches in the volleyball series between the two schools. The latest win came Thursday night as Christian County swept the Lady Blazers in straight sets in Lyle Dunbar Gym.
The first set of the night was back-and-forth, tied at 2, 3, 4, 9, 11, 12, and 18. Christian County then got some big plays from Kaidence Atwell, Carly Armstrong, Kiley Lambert, and Shiloh Baker as the Lady Colonels outscored UHA 7 to 1 down the stretch to take the set 25-19 and go up one set to none.
The Lady Blazers hung around in the set thanks to the play of Niyati Patel and Gretchen Durham, who had a couple of big blocks at the net.

Things were a little more comfortable in the second set for the Lady Colonels. After a strong start from Katie Cansler, Christian County held a 9-5 lead. An 8-1 run blew that lead out to 17-6 and the Lady Colonels rolled to a 25-14 win to go up two sets to none. Cansler ended the set with two kills and two aces.
The third set was more like the first. UHA got some big plays from Cassidy Keller and Niyona Brown while Christian County got a hot start from Kaidence Atwell. The set was tied at 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Christian County moved out to a 15-11 lead only to see UHA come back and tie things up at 18-18.

But then, Kaidence Atwell took over. Three straight kills from Atwell and it was 21-18. Atwell, Carly Armstrong, and Katie Cansler were then able to lead the way as Christian County closed out the set 25-20 and complete the sweep. Atwell finished with 7 kills in the set, including the point to end the match.
Christian County improves to 7-7 with the win. The Lady Colonels go to Adair County Saturday.
UHA falls to 3-6 with the loss. The Lady Blazers head to Livingston Central Saturday for the 2nd Region All A Classic.

Someone should look into the influence that UHA coach has on the refs.
