In the first half of Friday night’s game between Christian County and McKenzie, the lightning ‘strikes’ were figurative as the Rebels’ offense hit on several big plays. At halftime, the lightning strikes were real as Mother Nature decided to light up the night sky.
McKenzie put up 42 points in the first half, and then lightning ended the game at the break as the Rebels rolled to a 42-12 win over the Colonels. Both teams had returned to the field, ready to play the second half, when lightning was detected in the area.
After waiting for 15-20 minutes, coaches and officials decided that it was going to be some time before there was a break in the weather pattern and they elected to call the game after a half of play.

As the game got started Friday night, the McKenzie offense was what was lighting up the night. On the first play of the game, Cole Brown found Kason Brown wide open down the right side of the field for a 65 yard touchdown and the Rebels were off and running at 7-0.
After a three and out for Christian County, McKenzie drove the ball down the field and punched it in on a 2 yard run from Timmy Arline and it was 14-0 with just under 9 minutes left in the opening quarter.
The Colonels gave the home folks something to cheer about on the next possession as Zyon Wharton caught a pass and then left the field in his wake on a 63 yard touchdown to cut the margin to 14-6 with still 6:50 to go in the first.
The good vibes from the big play did not last very long for the Colonels. The very next offensive play, Cole Brown and Kason Brown hooked up again, this time for an 85 yard score and it was 21-6. That would be the score when the opening quarter came to an end.

Timmy Arline got into big play mode for McKenzie in the second quarter. Arline ripped off a 56 yard touchdown run to make it 28-6 with 10:30 to go in the half.
The very next time they had the ball, the Rebels found paydirt again when Cole Brown connected with Jacobi Melton from 27 yards to move the lead out to 35-6 with 8:15 to go in the half.
The game got into running-clock territory when Timmy Arline scored his third touchdown on a 13-yard run to move the lead to 42-6.
The Colonels got another big play from Zyon Wharton before the game reached its halftime end. Wharton caught a short pass, broke a couple of tackles, and broke clear for a 49 yard touchdown to make it a 42-12 game, and that is how it would end.
Christian County falls to 0-3 with the loss. The Colonels will look for that first win of the season next Friday night when Daviess County comes to the Stadium of Champions.
