After suffering their first loss of the season on Friday, Michael Parker was curious to see how his University Heights Academy Lady Blazers would respond on Saturday.

UHA got a pair of second half goals from Kendall Hancock, but Daviess County scored with ten minutes left to forge a 2-2 tie at the DC Electric Lady Marshall Classic.

The Lady Blazers lost to Marshall County 8-2 on Friday, giving up eight goals for the first time since an 8-0 loss to Bethlehem at the All A Classic State Tournament two years ago.

On Saturday, UHA’s defense was more active, limiting Daviess County to seven shots. Meanwhile, the Lady Blazers had trouble controlling the possession in the first half and managed just three shots.

Bella Coombs broke up the scoreless contest when the Daviess County sophomore scored from the right side with four minutes left before intermission.

UHA used the through ball effectively to get on the scoreboard in the 62nd minute. Ayssa Grise fed Hancock, who scored on a shot while falling to knot the game at 1-1.

The Lady Blazers nearly added another goal three minutes later when Skylar Cantrell’s header off a corner kick was saved by Marshall County goalie Kaelin Labhart, who deflected the shot in the air and snatched it out of the air before a follow-up shot could be made.

With 12 minutes left, Perry shot a through ball to Hancock, who scored to put the Lady Blazers up 2-1.

Daviess County (6-4-1) got a free kick off a foul two minutes later, and Mary Evelyn Wiman’s high pass was redirected into the goal by Mackenzie Elliott to tie the match at 2-2.

The Lady Panthers appeared to take the lead with six minutes left when UHA goalie Maddie Williams made a save on a shot, and it was poked home. However, the ball was ruled out of bounds right of the goal post, and neither team seriously threatened after.

UHA (6-1-1) will host Mayfield (2-5) on Monday in an All A Classic sectional contest to determine a berth in the All A Classic State Tournament.
