The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons and the Hopkins County Central Storm faced off under the Friday night lights, and the Maroons were able to stay undefeated thanks to their red-hot offense.
Madisonville started the scoring early with 21 unanswered points after a pair of Hopkins Central punts. One of those touchdowns came from a 56-yard bomb from Alex Richards to Jeremyah Sharp.
After recovering a fumble in the redzone, the Storm was able to score their first points of the game, making it 21-6. This touchdown came from quarterback Silas Gunn using his legs and scrambling 14 yards into the end zone.
After Madisonville quickly answered back with a touchdown of their own, Hopkins Central’s Isac Earl was able to run for a touchdown to make it 28-14, still in favor of the Maroons.
But a kick return touchdown followed by a pick six shortly thereafter from Madisonville was enough to swing the tides in their favor just before halftime. After the break, it was all Maroons.
They were able to score a field goal and four more touchdowns in the second half, one of which was yet another pick six.
The driving force in the 73-14 win for the Maroons was star running back Markezz Hightower, who finished the game with 81 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The other stars in the game were Bryson Shoulders, who had two pick sixes, and Ryder Sandidge, who had a pick six of his own as well as a kick return touchdown.
The Maroons will be hoping to stay undefeated in their next game on Thursday, September 11, against Paducah Tilghman at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
As for the Storm, they will looking for a bounce-back against the Fort Campbell Falcons on Friday, September 12. Kickoff of their game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fryar Stadium.
