
A week that began with their first win over their crosstown rival in more than 20 years, wrapped up with some hardware for the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm. The Lady Storm were in Gatlinburg over the weekend and won the Mount Collins Division of the Smoky Mountain Cup.
After winning their first match on Friday, the Lady Storm were back in action Saturday morning and took a 4-2 win over the Game 1: Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences. Central led 2-0 at half on goals from Emma Vandiver, with an assist from Avery Adams, and Lilly Armour, who got an assist from Riley Richardson.
Lilly Armour scored again in the second half to push the lead out to 3-0. After a Chattanooga goal, Emma Vandiver scored her second goal of the match, this one on an assist from Mary Grace Starks, to make it 4-1. Chattanooga added a goal with about 30 seconds to go to get to the final margin.
The second match Saturday saw the Lady Storm open fast and then roll to a 5-0 win over Campbell County. The Lady Storm got a pair of goals each from Lilly Armour and Emma Vandiver as they ran out to a 4-0 halftime lead. Mary Grace Starks had two assists in the half. Jaci Childress and Lilly Armour added one each.
Emma Vandiver added a goal in the second half, coming off Mary Grace Starks’ third assist of the match to close out the win and the division title.
Hopkins County Central is now 8-1 for the season and will take on Crittenden County at home Tuesday evening.
