Make it four straight 4th Region All A soccer championships for the Todd County Central Rebels. The Rebels knocked off Foundation Christian and Russellville Saturday in Bowling Green to claim the title.
In Saturday’s semifinal game against Foundation Christian, the Rebels got off to a strong start with a penalty kick goal by Tyler Baker just 2 minutes in to make it 1-0.
By the 20-minute mark, John Ross Cardwell was on fire with 2 goals and an assist on a goal by Spencer Pool as the Rebels bolted out to a 4-0 lead.
FCA scored late in the half to make it a 4-1 lead at the half.
The second half was a different story as Todd County Central struggled with turnovers in transition as FCA battled back to tie the game at 4-4. Foundation Christian had a chance to get to the lead with a late penalty kick in regulation, but John Mark Campbell came up with a huge save, and the match headed into penalty kicks.
In PKs, FCA missed on their 4th shot, and the Rebels’ Spencer Pool sealed the win by scoring his shot to advance Todd Central into the final.
In the championship match against Russellville, the Rebels took a 1-0 lead in the first half when John Ross Cardwell scored off an assist from Spencer Pool.
That score held through the half and into the final five minutes of the match when Cardwell stole the ball, drove through two defenders, and found the back of the net with the goal that made it 2-0 and sealed another All A regional title for the Rebels.
The Rebels advance to the All A sectional Saturday in Elkton, where they will take on Owensboro Catholic.
