Todd Central Outlasts Madisonville in Four Sets

After losing seven straight matches to Madisonville-North Hopkins, the Todd County Central Lady Rebels have won two straight against the Lady Maroons for the first time.

The latest came Monday in Elkton as Todd Central won 3-1 (25-9, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20) to move above .500 at 8-7.

The Lady Rebels flexed their muscle at the net with Allyssa Wofford and Aubri Penick combining for 46 kills. Wofford added 10 digs and five aces, while Shelby Holderman had 43 assists and four aces.

Todd Central jumped ahead 5-1 and never let Madisonville get to within three points in taking the first set 25-9. Penick had five kills in the set, and Wofford added four.

Madisonville struggled to find its rhythm in the opening set, committing three attack errors and two service errors.

The Lady Maroons found some rhythm in the second set, jumping out to an 11-5 lead. Todd had five attack errors in the set as they fell behind 14-8. With Wofford serving, Todd Central went on a 13-0 run with Penick notching three kills, and Wofford adding two kills and four aces.

The Lady Rebels closed out the set 25-17.

The third set featured four ties and three lead changes as Madisonville jumped ahead 8-4 before Todd Central tied things up at 10-10. There would be three more ties before Madisonville used a 9-2 run behind the right arm of Leah Moody. The Lady Maroon senior had seven of her 12 kills in the set.

The Lady Rebels didn’t help their cause with seven attack errors, while Madisonville played nearly flawlessly with just one service error and one attack error.

There were eight ties in the fourth set, but the Lady Rebels had too much at the net with Penick (10 kills) and Wofford (8 kills) leading the way.

Chloe Collins was strong on the back line for the Lady Rebels with 11 digs.

Sadie Kirk added six kills for Madisonville, and Bri Pettit had five kills and three blocks.

Cadence Curry had 12 assists and eight digs, with Carlee Sandidge adding eight digs.

Madisonville (5-8) will play at Union County on Tuesday, while Todd Central will host 13th District rival Logan County, also on Tuesday.
