Cortner’s 36 Makes for Memorable Senior Day at Caldwell

Scott Cortner made it a memorable Senior Day for Caldwell County’s golf team.

Cortner is Caldwell’s only senior golfer. He and his family were recognized prior to Monday’s match at Princeton Golf Club.

Cortner then went out and fired an even-par round of 36 to claim medalist honors by three shots in the match against Heritage Christian Academy and Webster County.

HCA’s Cruz Egbert was runner-up with a 39.

Caldwell and Webster each finished with team scores of 185 counting the best four individual scores.

However, Webster took the match because its fifth scorer was better than Caldwell’s.

Besides Cortner’s 36, the Tigers got a 44 from Presten Alfred, 51 from Max Hooks, 54 from Brody Kirk, 58 from Cohen Schott, 60 from Braydon Schott and 63 from Lukas Harper.

Webster was led by Trace Hardison’s 42 and Collier Thurby’s 44.

The Trojans also got a 47 from Rex Whitsell, 52 from Aiden Alstadt, 53 from Wyatt Woodard, 56 from Alex Barron and 59 from Brackston Turner.

Heritage Christian shot a 207. Egbert’s 39 led the way, followed by Jerry Spurling’s 53, Sawyer Lexey’s 58, Tripp Egbert’s 58 and John Spurling’s 63.

Caldwell and Webster each fielded girls’ teams, with the Lady Trojans winning with a 213. The Lady Tigers shot 241.

Webster’s Rory Jones and Braghen Sloat carded the low rounds with 49s. Kelsey Hanor shot 56 and Kamryn Hayes 59.

Brylee Boitnott shot the low round for Caldwell with a 51. Bryleigh Jordan shot 59, Marlye Harper 65 and Hayden Hall 66.
