Hopkins County Central owns the No. 1 seed for the girls’ 7th District tournament next month in Princeton.

The Lady Storm nailed down the top spot — and an automatic berth in the 2nd Region tournament — by turning back Caldwell County 6-2 in district action Monday in Mortons Gap.

Mary Starks had two goals and an assist while Emma Vandiver scored twice as the Lady Storm improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the district. (Hopkins Central beat Madisonville-North Hopkins 3-0 earlier this season.)

Lilly Armour had a goal and an assist against Caldwell while Jaci Childress had one goal.

Riley Richardson, Sydney McLemore and Kenzleigh Harrison each had one assist.

Savannah Barnett recorded seven saves in the Hopkins Central net.

Caldwell (8-5, 0-2) got a goal from Jayda Miller. The Lady Tigers’ other tally came on an own goal.

As the district’s top seed, the Lady Storm earns a spot in the championship match in the three-team district.

Hopkins Central will look to extend an eight-game winning streak on Tuesday when it hosts Webster County.

Caldwell will look to bounce back on Tuesday when it travels to the 3rd Region to face Ohio County.
