Bishop Brossart scored two second-half goals in 30 seconds and added the game-winner with five minutes left to stun University Heights Academy 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Boys All A Classic State Soccer Tournament in Louisville on Saturday.

It was a disappointing finish for the Blazers, who had been looking to advance to the state semifinals for the second consecutive season.

UHA coach Josh Nichols encouraged his team to start fast, and they responded as Hayden Hunt scored on a through ball five minutes in for a quick 1-0 lead.

The Blazers were outshot 9-2 in the first half, but their defense kept the Mustangs off the scoreboard.

Cal Givens crossed to Hunt with 29:28 left in the match for a 2-0 Blazers’ lead.

However, Brossart answered one minute later when Ben Sweeney advanced upfield and got the Mustangs on the board.

Less than 30 seconds later, Luke Neltner rebounded a missed shot and banged home the equalizer for Brossart.

The Mustangs narrowly missed taking the lead with 14 minutes left when a header missed high. However, Neltner scored what proved to be the game-winner with 5:20 left.

Brossart (9-5) outshot UHA 16-5, including 7-3 in the second half.

UHA (10-5) will play at Hopkinsville on Tuesday in an 8th District matchup.
