Todd County Central’s run at the All A Classic State Soccer Tournament came to an end Saturday night with an 8-0 loss to Bethlehem in Louisville.
Rebels goalie John Mark Campbell and the Todd Central defense were up to the challenge in the first half as they kept Bethlehem off the board for the first 34 minutes.
Campbell made eight saves in the first half and 15 for the match.
Derek McKinney got Bethlehem on the board with six minutes left in the first half with a laser from the top of the box.
Bethlehem broke the match open in the first two minutes of the second half. With the Eagles about to advance through the gaps of a tiring Todd defense, they scored five more goals over the next 21 minutes to reach eight and invoke the mercy rule.
While Campbell and Todd’s defense faced 30 shots, Bethlehem dropped four and sometimes five defenders and kept the Rebels from getting a good look at the goal.
Bethlehem (10-3-1) moved into Sunday’s championship match against defending All A state champion Collegiate.
Todd County Central (9-6) was making the school’s first All A semifinal appearance after a win earlier in the day over Somerset. Campbell and Spencer Pool were named to the All A Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Rebels will host Fort Campbell on Monday at 6:00.
