Cathryn Brown got off to a red-hot start for the Big Blue in Monday’s action at the The Johnie Imes Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Missouri.
The Lyon County product blistered the first nine holes as the teams got in 36 holes on the opening day of play.
Brown, a junior at the University of Kentucky, collected six birdies and three pars, making the turn in the first round at 6-under par.
She then rolled in an eagle on the par-5 No. 10 to reach 8-under through 10 holes.
Brown could not keep up the torrid pace over the final eight holes, but still assembled an 8-under 64 in the first round for a four-shot lead going into the second round.
It marked her career best by two shots and it tied the second-best 18-hole individual round in program history.
Brown shot a 1-over 73 in Monday’s second round to remain the leader in the clubhouse at 7-under-par 137. She is one shot in front of Melanie Walker of Missouri.
UK turned in a 6-under showing in the first 18 holes and a 3-over on the second lap around the golf course to land in second place ahead of the final round, 11 shots behind leader and host Missouri. The next closest team is Wichita State in third place, 10 shots back at 12-over.
Kentucky, Missouri and Wichita State will be paired together in the final round Tuesday, which will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Central time.
