University Heights Academy finished in fourth place at Monday’s Region 2 golf tournament and qualified two of its golfers for the KHSAA state first round.

Allie Sandifer had the top finish for the Lady Blazers. Her round of 10 over par 82 was good for 10th place and included a birdie on each side of the course. Campbell Lindsey qualified for the state first round for a second consecutive year after a 12-over-par 84.

Lindsey and Sandifer will play in the KHSAA state first round next week at the Calvert City Country Club.

Caroline Tucker equaled her career best score with a 19-over-par 91. She missed qualifying for the state first round by three shots.

7th grader Ella Perry competed in her first region tournament and finished tied for 38th place with a 38 over par 110.

Also playing in her first region tournament was Kylee Grace, who finished in 50th place with a 129.

As a team, University Heights Academy finished 30 shots behind third-place Ohio County and 10 shots ahead of fifth-place Union County.

Daviess County won its fourth straight region title, finishing 19 shots ahead of second-place Henderson County, which had the individual champion in Meryl Grogan, who shot a 1-under par 71.

The start of Monday’s match was delayed four hours due to heavy rain and lightning. The golfers got in just over three hours on the course before a nearly one-hour delay halted play just after the golfers made the turn around 3:40.

Play wrapped up just before seven o’clock as another storm rolled through the Henderson area.
