Lady Rebels Rally Past UHA for 4-Set Win

The Todd County Central Lady Rebels extended their late-season winning streak to three matches Monday night. The Lady Rebels went on the road to University Heights and came up with a tough four-set win over the Lady Blazers.

UHA grabbed the early momentum in the match, taking the opening set 25-22 to go up one set to none.

It appeared the Lady Bladers were going to put the Lady Rebels with their backs against the wall in the second set as UHA led in the second until late in the set when Todd County Central came charging back to take a 25-22 win of its own to even the match at one set each.

The Lady Rebels found themselves trailing 21-17 in the third set before mounting a comeback charge. Led by strong late-set play from Allyssa Wofford, Todd County Central took a 25-21 win to go up two sets to one.

The fourth set again saw University Heights get out to a lead, this time 11-7 as the Lady Blazers got some solid efforts from Gretchen Durham, Cassidy Keller, and Niyona Brown. This time, the Lady Rebels did not wait until late in the set to make their comeback attempt.

Todd County Central got back to the lead at 13-12 and continued to pull away from there, eventually winning the fourth set 25-15 and taking the match three sets to one.

Allyssa Wofford ended the night with 19 kills while Aubri Penick added 14 of her own. Wofford also had 10 digs and 6 service aces. Shelby Holderman had a huge night setting the table with 37 assists.

Ava Crawford led UHA with seven kills. Megan Long added six. Gretchen Durham ended up with 17 assists.

Todd County Central is back home Tuesday night to take on Russellville.

The Lady Blazers will be back at home for an 8th District contest against Christian County.
