Macy Cotton has qualified for the KHSAA state first-round golf tournament for a second straight year after a 13th-place finish at Monday’s Region 2 tournament at the Henderson Country Club.
Cotton shot a 13 over par 85 with a round that included eight pars. The Hopkins County Central junior will compete in the state first round next week at the Calvert City Country Club.
Senior Madolyn Brown competed in her final high school match, finishing in a 31st-place tie after shooting a 102.
Henderson County’s Meryl Grogan took individual honors, with a one-under-par 71, which was one shot better than Daviess County’s Claire Reynolds.
The start of Monday’s match was delayed four hours due to heavy rain and lightning. The golfers got in just over three hours on the course before a nearly one-hour delay halted play just after the golfers made the turn around 3:40.
Play wrapped up just before seven o’clock as another storm rolled through the Henderson area.
