
Caldwell County eighth grader Landon Mitchell may be headed to the State First Round golf tournament.
Mitchell is an alternate for State First Round after shooting an 84 in action Tuesday in the boys’ Region 1 golf tournament at Murray Country Club.
Mitchell was just one shot away from qualifying for the next round. At the regional, the top two teams and then the next 10 best scores earn a berth in the State First Round.
Other scores for Caldwell saw Scott Cortner shoot 95, Presten Alfred 114, Lukas Harper 118 and Brody Kirk 122.
McCracken County’s Landon Hunt claimed medalist honors with a 70.
McCracken also won its third-straight regional team championship with a 293, which was 10 shots better than runner-up Marshall County.
Golfers played through scattered showers and windy conditions at times during the round, but no major downpours.
The boys’ State First Round, which includes golfers from Regions 1-4, is set for next Tuesday at Calvert City Golf & Country Club.
