They tried to not let the weather be a factor Tuesday night, but chalk one up to Mother Nature for the time being.

After moving the start time up by an hour in an effort to beat an approaching line of thunderstorms, the boys’ 8th District showdown between the Hopkinsville Tigers and the UHA Blazers nearly got to halftime before lightning stopped the match, and then a combination of storms and lightning led to the suspension of the match at the Stadium of Champions.

Both teams had a couple of chances to get on the board in the opening half, but the score was still 0-0 when the match was stopped with 2:26 left in the half.

Heavy rain followed at the Stadium plus no breaks in lightning over the next half hour or so led to the decision to stop for the night.

The match will be resumed Wednesday evening with the time to be determined Wednesday afternoon. That does mean that the Hopkinsville against Trigg County match will be canceled to make room for the resumption of the district contest.
