Blazers Finish Sixth at Region Golf Tourney (w/PHOTOS)

University Heights Academy finished in sixth place at Tuesday’s Region 2 golf tournament hosted by the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club.

The Blazers were one of five teams within five shots of another for the second team qualifying spot. for next week’s state first round, but fell out of contention with about five holes to play.

The Blazers were led by Hayden Hunt, who tied for 16th place with a 10-over-par 81. He shot a 1 over par 36 on the front nine and finished with a 45 on the back nine. He missed qualifying for the state first round by a single stroke.

Courtland Gibson shot a 12-over-par 83 to finish tied for 26th place. Okay. He shot a 3 over par 38 on the front nine. Jackson Flynn, Cal Givens, and Bryson Turner each shot a 13 over par 84 to finish tied for 30th place.

As a team, UHA finished 16 shots out of second place and nine shots out of fifth place.

Owensboro Catholic won the region championship with a team score of 311, which was five shots better than second-place Henderson County. Both teams will advance to next week’s KHSAA state first round at the Calvert City Country Club.

Muhlenberg County’s Cy Tudor and Owensboro Catholic’s Vince Hayden tied for top honors with a 3-over-par 74, with Tudor taking the individual title on the second playoff hole. Friday’s weather at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club was in stark contrast to Monday’s girls’ tournament at Henderson County, which was delayed five hours due to weather.

Tuesday featured mild temperatures and no rain.
