Henderson County Takes Region Golf Runner-Up Title (w/PHOTOS)

Henderson County put a score up on the board at Tuesday’s Region 2 golf tournament and then had to wait to see if it would be good enough to move on to the next round.

The Colonels finished with a team score of 316, which was two shots better than third-place Daviess County and seven shots better than Hancock County and Madisonville, North Hopkins. As a result, the Colonels will move on as a team to next week’s state first round.

Jake Hayden tied for third place with a four-over-par 75. His round featured one birdie and five bogeys.

Bentley Simpson shot a five-over-par 76 to finish in sixth place as he carded four birdies on the afternoon.

Levi Smith finished tied for 24th with an 11-over-par 82, while Mason Raines tied for 26th with an 83, and Wyatt DeWitt rounded out the scoring with a 16-over-par 87.

Owensboro Catholic won the region championship with a team score of 311, which was five shots better than second-place Henderson County. Both teams will advance to next week’s KHSAA state first round at the Calvert City Country Club.

Muhlenberg County’s Cy Tudor and Owensboro Catholic’s Vince Hayden tied for top honors with a 3-over-par 74, with Tudor taking the individual title on the second playoff hole.

Friday’s weather at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club was in stark contrast to Monday’s girls’ tournament at Henderson County, which was delayed five hours due to weather. Tuesday featured mild temperatures and no rain.
