Landon Hunt won his third regional golf championship while McCracken County won its third-straight team title.
Hunt was the only player in the field to finish in red numbers at Tuesday’s Region 1 golf tournament at Murray Country Club.
Hunt finished in style, birdying the final hole to finish at 2-under-par 70 — four shots better than anyone else in the field.
That made it back-to-back Region 1 championships for Hunt, who previously won a Region 2 title at Christian County before moving to McCracken.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs won the team title with a score of 293. That was 10 shots better than runner-up Marshall County.
Besides Hunt’s 70, McCracken got 74s from Evan Hack and Dallas Vinson, a 75 from Tanner Kight and a 77 from Jack Farmery.
Marshall was led by Brooks Lamb’s 74. Paxton Carter and Gage Norman each carded 76s while Ryan Stokes and Nolan Hurst each shot 77.
Both McCracken and Marshall advance to next Tuesday’s State First Round golf tournament at Calvert City Golf & Country Club.
Also qualifying for the next round are the next 10 highest scores not on the top two teams.
Those individuals are Maddux O’Guinn of Graves County (78), Rylan Crouch of Mayfield (79), Maddox Mitchell of Murray (80), Ian Dahncke of Murray (81), Reed Jarvis of Murray (81), Liam Stewart of Paducah St. Mary (81), Hagen Hansen of Graves County (83), Beckett O’Guinn of Graves County (83), Tyler Mueller of St. Mary (83) and Cooper Collins of Lyon County (83).
Caldwell County’s Landon Mitchell shot an 84 and will be an alternate for the State First Round, which will include golfers from Regions 1-4.
Golfers battled scattered showers and windy conditions at times during the regional round, but no major downpours as storms in the area largely avoided the course while play was underway.
