Coming off a disappointing district loss to Hopkinsville Wednesday night, the University Heights Academy Blazers responded with a big 2nd Region win Thursday night at Givens Field. The Blazers recovered from an early deficit by scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 over the Henderson County Colonels.

The win was the first-ever for the Blazers over Henderson County. The Colonels had won the previous 11 matches, going back to October 2011.

The evening got off to a bumpy start for the Blazers as Henderson’s Alex Boley found the net just five minutes into the match to put the Colonels up 1-0.

But give the Blazers credit. There was no head hanging as they immediately got to work trying to get back in the match.

At 34:30, Hayden Hunt pulled off one of the best headers of the season, taking a quick step to a corner kick and putting it into the net to even things up at 1-1. That would be the score as the teams went to the half.

The UHA defense continued to lock down the Colonels as the second half got started and that gave the Blazer attack a chance to find its footing.

Hayden Hunt would add another goal on a header, and Cal Givens scored off a penalty kick as the Blazers pulled out to the two goal win.

Graham Conrad had two assists for the Blazers. Goalie Hayden Fitzsimmons finished the night with three saves.

With the win, UHA improves to 11-5 on the season.
