Fury crew members made our dolphin tour fun and memorable. (Katie Montgomery Photo)
Historic St. Augustine offers great weather and plenty of room on the beaches at this time of year but Fury Water Adventures has some other great options for a fun-filled few hours.
We enjoyed the live music sunset sail a year ago after experiencing a similar evening with Fury in Key West a few years earlier. Now that Fury is also in St. Augustine, you can choose not only the sunset sail but also a dolphin watch and harbor sail, wildlife adventure boat cruise and kayak eco experience, parasailing or the Nights of Lights sunset sail in December for the best way to see the city’s Christmas lights.
We opted for the dolphin watch this year and it was incredible. The weather was near perfect Wednesday — sunny and clear with a slight breeze — and I knew the sail was going to be perfect as soon as we got onboard and crew member Katie Montgomery greeted us with a huge smile guaranteeing we would see dolphins.
I thought maybe that was a bit optimistic on her part but guess what. She was right because before we even left the dock you could see several dolphins swimming not far from us. By the time our catamaran was 50 yards away from the dock, we had dolphins everywhere and spent about 30 minutes watching the dolphins frolic. It was almost like they knew they were putting on a show for us.
The four-person crew could not have been better. I got to help raise the sail along with a few “younger” passengers when two crew members asked for help and I’m convinced I played a “huge” part in this process.
The 90-minute cruise included snacks, beer, select wines, soft drinks and water and is priced at $39.95 for those 11 and older and $29.95 for those 4-10 years old. Under 3 are free.
Not only do you see dolphins, but you also get a look at America’s oldest city from a different perspective and the crew does a great job pointing out historic landmarks, including Fort Castillo de San Marcos and the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
Our tour included folks from at least five different states and ranging in age from probably 2 years old to 75 or more.
Part of the experience is interacting with the other passengers and crew as you cruise and enjoy the scenery.
Katie told me how at times the sunset cruise packs the catamaran and everyone is dancing to the live band. Based on our experience last year, I could agree. She also raved about the gorgeous sunsets.
Ava was actually working her final day before embarking on a European trip by herself where she has no set plans after she initially arrives in France.
They both shared their favorite eating spots and other things to do in St. Augustine which is always helpful.
I think the wildlife adventure boat cruise and kayak eco experience sounds fantastic but I am not exactly a great kayaker. However, I think my grandchildren would love that adventure. Same with the parasailing.
Each tour has its separate pricing so check the website or call 844-831-5397. The online registration option is easy to navigate and it’s easy to find the departure location: Vilano Beach – Beaches Marina, 250 Vilano Rd Saint Augustine, FL 32084. The dock is located on the pier behind Beaches Restaurant. Fury does not provide parking so allow extra time but there is ample parking nearby.
So if you are in St. Augustine or Key West, check out Fury Water Adventures and find the option that is best for you and your family.

Looks amazing. Awesome job in the pictures. Key West is beautiful. My favorite vacation spots are Cuba( the government lies about this country) I actually interact with the people and everyone is so inviting and wants to feed you and it's always a fiesta. Also Costa Rica.
In Key West now.
We love it on Duval Street. Go Cats! Stay out of last place!
