The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons went into their Friday evening matchup with the Graves County Eagles looking to keep their undefeated record. Despite it taking longer than they would have wanted, Madisonville was able to get the win 23-20.
Madisonville was able to get the scoring started with a field goal on their first drive of the game, which lasted almost the entire first quarter. After that, they were able to get a stop and get the ball back before the quarter ended.
That drive was where they were able to score their first touchdown, as Travion Stafford was able to run it in after a big Ryder Sandidge catch set the team up in the redzone.
Graves answered back with a big pass-and-catch to get within the 10-yard-line, but Madisonville was able to stand tall and hold the Eagles to just a field goal. Later on, Markezz Hightower was able to run one in and make it 17-3.
The fourth quarter belonged to Graves, as they were able to get a couple of late touchdowns, including a pick-six. This tied the game at 17 apiece, and eventually took the game to overtime.
The Eagles got the ball to start, but Madisonville held them to just a field goal. After that it did not take long for the Maroons to take advantage, as Hightower scored his second touchdown of the game to secure the victory for his team.
This is the team’s sixth win of the season in as many games, and they will be looking to continue that win streak in their next game on Thursday, October 2, against Muhlenberg County on the road. Kickoff of their game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
