This week’s Jersey Mike’s ‘Player of the Game’ for the week of September 22 is Hopkinsville High School’s Raul Rivera. Raul was selected based on his efforts at last week’s big 8th District boys’ soccer match between the Tigers and the University Heights Academy Blazers.

The game was played over two nights, Tuesday and Wednesday, due to thunderstorms in the region Tuesday night. The split nights did nothing to impact the performance of Rivera, who came up with the shutout in goal for the Tigers, as Hopkinsville picked up an important 1-0 win over the Blazers.

Rivera finished the match with six saves. He now has 60 saves for the season. And, with the shutout, Rivera has four of those for the year.

With the win, the Hopkinsville Tigers locked up the top seed in next week’s 8th District tournament.

The Jersey Mike’s ‘Player of the Game’ is selected each week from one of the five schools in Christian County (Christian County, Hopkinsville, University Heights, Heritage Christian, and Fort Campbell) based on their performance in a big game or event for their team that week.
