The Christian County Lady Colonels very nearly pulled off a big ‘reverse sweep’ win Tuesday night. In a battle of regional tournament contenders, the Lady Colonels from the south dropped a tough five-set road decision to Henderson County.
In an indication of what kind of night it was going to be, Henderson County battled its way to a 25-23 win in the opening set. The northern Lady Colonels then took the second set 25-18 to go up two sets to none.
Just as it appeared Henderson County had all the momentum going its way, the southern Lady Colonels fought back in a big way.
In a set much like the first, Christian County took the third set 25-23 to pull within two sets to one. Then, the Lady Colonels pulled even with a big 25-17 win in the fourth, setting up the winner-take-all fifth set.
But, Henderson County was able to turn the momentum back in the other direction and the northern Lady Colonels took a 15-10 win in the fifth set to close out the match three sets to two.
Christian County (15-14) goes on the road Thursday to take on the Todd County Central Lady Rebels.
