
Meryl Grogan has qualified for the KHSAA State Golf Championship after a 13th-place finish at the state first round on Monday.
The Henderson County junior shot a 10-over par 82 at the Calvert City Country Club to grab the seventh of 15 automatic qualifying spots for next week’s championship in Bowling Green.
The Region 2 champion shot a 42 on the front nine and responded with a 40 on the back nine that included a birdie and four pars.
Ainsley Dalton shot a round of 86 to tie for 25th place and miss qualifying for the next round by one shot.
Lucy Whitfield tied for 43rd place and shot a 91, while Cameron Davis shot a 97 to land in 63rd place.
As a team, Henderson County finished in sixth place, 30 shots behind third-place Marshall County and an automatic team qualifying spot.
