University Heights Academy has reversed a three-game losing streak with four straight victories following Thursday’s senior night win over Hopkins County Central at Givens Field.
The Blazers improved to 14-5 and will remain the top team in the Second Region in the KHSAA RPI rankings.
Jayden Williamson’s second goal of the season got UHA on the board in the 12th minute when he found the net from the left side off a feed from Cal Givens.
That was the lone goal of the first half as the defenses rose to the occasion, as UHA held a 6-5 shot advantage in the first 40 minutes.
UHA struck first six minutes into the second half on a spectacular header from Hayden Hunt off an assist from Clayton Lester. The goal was Hunt’s team-leading 23rd of the season.
Teerth Shah scored his second goal of the season in the 62nd minute off an assist from Graham Conrad.
UHA closed out the scoring with 10 minutes left when Conrad scored his 10th goal off Givens’ second assist of the night and eighth of the season.
Hayden Fitzsimmons saved all four shots he faced as he and the Blazer defense notched their seventh clean sheet of the season.
The Blazers now play a waiting game with the federal government to see if they will play their district tournament semifinal match against Fort Campbell on Tuesday. The DoDEA has instructed both Fort Campbell and Fort Knox to shut down athletics during the shutdown. The KHSAA sent guidance out on Thursday that said if Fort Campbell is not allowed to play on Tuesday, they will have to forfeit the district match.
If the shutdown ends before Tuesday, the match will likely go off as scheduled.
Hopkins County Central (9-6) will play Caldwell County in the 7th District Tournament semifinals on Monday in Princeton.
