Because of the federal government shutdown and its effect on the military, student-athletes at Fort Campbell have been in shutdown mode through DoDEA guidance and not allowed to practice or play games since Oct. 1.
Fort Campbell’s girls’ soccer team didn’t find out until six hours before their scheduled match with Hopkinsville that they would be allowed to play in Monday’s 8th District Tournament semifinals. That permission came down Monday, and the Lady Falcons responded with a 5-0 win over Hopkinsville, securing the program’s first trip to the region tournament in 11 years.
Senior defender Eliza Allen talked to us about the emotions of her and the team, and the relief involved in knowing she will be able to play in the postseason and not have to forfeit the remainder of their season due to the lockdown.
