The Fort Campbell Lady Falcons and the Trigg County Lady Wildcats faced off in the quarterfinal round of the 2nd Region Tournament on Saturday evening, and it was the latter that was able to take control and get the victory by way of the mercy rule.
The driving force in the win for the Lady Wildcats was Leiah Hite, who was able to score four goals, one of which came with 16:32 left in the second half to end the game 8-0. The team’s other four goals came from Maggie Wolfe and Addison Humphries, who were both able to get two goals apiece.
On the defensive side, Trigg County goalkeeper Kiley Slone had six saves in the net over the course of the game.
Trigg also had to work through some adversity to get the win, as one of their players went down with a gruesome leg injury with 33:23 left to play in the second half. This led to a 30-minute delay, but it was not enough to stop the Lady Wildcats.
“One of the special things about this group of girls is that they’ve really come together across this year,” Trigg Head Coach Jason Hite said. “They support each other, they back each other up no matter what, even in hard times. And I think they showed that after the injury.”
Trigg will be back in action on Monday, October 13, at 7:30 against Hopkins County Central in the semifinal round of the 2nd Region Tournament
