While Alexa Aubuchon and the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons soccer team saw their season end in the region quarterfinals on Saturday, she and her teammates were grateful for the chance to play in the school’s first region tournament in 11 years.
Fort Campbell sports were halted for seven days earlier this month due to the federal government shutdown. A cloud of uncertainty hovered over the heads of Fort Campbell athletes and their families, who are affected in several ways.
After getting the go-ahead to resume athletics, Aubuchon had a pair of goals in Fort Campbell’s district semifinal win, which sent them to the region tournament for the first time since 2014. Despite the loss, she says the players made the most of their opportunity to play when things looked bleak during district tournament week.
