Defending Champ Henderson Rolls Past Hoptown in Semis

Henderson County will battle University Heights Academy for the 2nd Region soccer championship for the second straight year.

The Colonels (10-10) earned their trip back to the final by handling Hopkinsville 7-1 in semifinal action Wednesday night in Henderson.

UHA (17-6) nipped Madisonville-North Hopkins 2-1 in the other semifinal tilt.

Henderson, the defending regional champion, scored twice in the first 13 minutes and built a 3-0 lead 24 minutes into the game on the way to the win over Hopkinsville.

It was 3-1 at halfitme, but Hoptown (12-7-1) could net only the one goal.

Henderson added four more goals in the second half.

The Colonels got two tallies from Alex Bowley while Lincoln Black, Warren Grove, Beckham Womack and Zehn Hazelwood each scored once.

Hopkinsville’s lone goal came on a free kick with 15:20 left in the first half. Mikel Ramirez served the ball in front, where Alex Rameirez headed it home.

Henderson held an 18-7 advantage in shots in the contest.

Raul Rivera recorded eight saves in the Hopkinsville net.

Aaden Bugg had a pair of first-half saves for Henderson.

Thursday’s championship tilt is set for 7:00 at Colonel Field.
