Hopkins Central Wins 3-1 Thriller vs Trigg County

The Hopkins County Central Lady Storm and the Trigg County Lady Wildcats volleyball teams faced off on Thursday night with the season winding down. And it was the Lady Storm who were able to win the game in four sets and snap their four-game losing streak.

The first set immediately started off intense, as both teams were going back and forth. The lead changed hands a number of times, but Trigg was able to take a 20-17 lead into a late timeout. Hopkins Central was able to come back and tie it at 23, and there was even more back and forth until the game was tied at 27. Then, back-to-back kills from Trigg’s Cali Jones won it for the Lady Wildcats 29-27.

The second set did not start as close, as the Lady Storm were able to get out to an early 10-3 and force a Trigg timeout. They kept that seven-point lead all the way until 15-8, but the Lady Wildcats clawed back and tied it at 19. Hopkins Central then got out to a bit of a lead, then a Trigg serve that went out of bounds and an ace from Mallory Wagoner won it for the Lady Storm 25-20.

The third set was back to being back and forth, basically being neck-and-neck until Trigg went up 20-16 at a late timeout. But Central came back and tied it at 20 with an ace from Calajia Mason, and they were able to take the set 25-23 after Trigg was unable to get it over the net.

In the fourth and final set, Hopkins Central started with an 8-4 lead going into the first timeout, which they then extended to a 13-5 lead. Trigg made a bit of a comeback and cut the lead to three, but two more aces from Mason gave the Lady Storm a 24-18 lead going into the final timeout of the game. After that, all it took was a mistake on a kill attempt by Trigg to end the set in favor of Central 25-18.

This was the last game of the regular season for both of these teams, but the Lady Wildcats’ opponent in the first round of the 5th District Tournament.

As for the Lady Storm, they will face off against the Lady Tigers of Caldwell County in the first round of the 7th District Tournament, who are actually the hosts of the tourney. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the CAB.
