
Crittenden County will be looking to extend the longest active district championship streak on Tuesday as the Lady Rockets host the 5th District Tournament on Tuesday.
Crittenden has won seven straight titles dating back to 2017, which includes 43 consecutive matches against district foes.
The Lady Rockets entered the season as the preseason favorite in the coaches’ poll, and finished the regular season at 7-14. However, they rolled through district play, winning 12 of 13 sets.
Despite graduating a large senior class, the Lady Rockets have filled the voids with a balance of serve receive and power at the net. Lacey Boone (99 kills) and Braelyn Merrill (99 kills) lead the Lady Rockets at the net, with Lilah Sherer tops on the team with 447 assists.
Crittenden County has a berth in Tuesday’s 7:30 championship as they await the winner of the 6:00 semifinal between Livingston Central and Trigg County. Crittenden has won 23 straight against Livingston Central and 20 straight over Trigg.
Trigg County (5-15) and Livingston Central (5-14) played a pair of four-set matches this season as the Lady Cardinals extended their winning streak over the Lady Wildcats to 13 matches.
Livingston Central has dropped nine straight matches entering the tournament since a Sept. 11 win over Trigg County.
Freshman Abby Erickson leads the Lady Cardinals with 96 kills, while sophomore Jocelynn Morganson has 50 kills and 36 blocks at the net. Another freshman, Kaydence Smith, has 123 digs, 100 assists, and leads the Lady Cardinals with 46 aces.
Three of Trigg County’s five wins have come in its last eight matches as the Lady Wildcats have zeroed in on its most effective rotations.
Sophomore Cali Jones (58 kills, 22 blocks) has teamed with senior Grace Carver (79 kills) and Mackenzie Gusgeski (16 blocks) to give the Lady Wildcats an improved presence at the net.
Senior Chloe Adams (103) assists and junior Sierra Williams (85 assists) facilitates the offense, and seventh grader Lilah Booth leads the team with 180 digs and is second with 33 aces.
Trigg County last won a district title in 2017, while Livingston Central last carried a championship trophy off the court in 2014.
