The Fort Campbell Lady Falcons and the Heritage Christian Lady Warriors faced off in the semifinal round of the 8th District Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday evening, and it was the latter that was able to get the win in four sets to advance to the championship to face Christian County.
The beginning of the first set saw HCA get off to a very early run, but Fort Campbell was able to effectively stop it and only be down 10-8 at the first timeout. The Lady Warriors kept a small lead for a while, that is until the Lady Falcons were able to tie the game at 19 points apiece. Despite that, Heritage Christian was able to take the lead back and take the set 25-21.
Fort Campbell started the second set 4-1, and HCA called a timeout to prevent a big run. It ended up working fairly well, as the set was then tied at eight. There was then a bit of back and forth until HCA was able to take a small 12-11 lead at the next timeout. The two teams continued to trade blows until both had 22 points, but it was HCA that was able to break away and win it 25-22 after a kill from Bralee Fowler.
The Lady Falcons were able to bounce back from the tough loss in the second set and get out to a 13-7 lead in the third. They were able to keep that lead for most of the set until the Lady Warriors made a bit of a comeback to be down just 22-21 at a late timeout. But Fort Campbell was able to pull away and win their first set of the game 25-23 after a missed kill from HCA.
But after dropping the third set, Heritage Christian was able to get out to an early lead and extend it until they were up 16-9 at a timeout. Fort Campbell was able to make it very interesting and being it all the way back to be down just 24-23, but a kill from HCA’s Hadlee Hayes ended the set 25-23 and gave the Lady Warriors the victory.
They will go on to the 8th District Championship on Thursday, October 23, at Christian County High School against the host team of the Lady Colonels.
