UHA and Henderson Headline Region Soccer Coaches Awards

University Heights Academy and Henderson County headline the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Region Team.

Henderson County’s Alex Bowley was named the Offensive Player of the Year. The senior scored 27 of Henderson County’s goals this season, with seven of his goals coming in four postseason matches.

University Heights Academy’s Clayton Lester was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Lester was part of a defensive unit that allowed 38 goals in 25 games and held 20 of their 25 opponents to two goals or less.

Aaden Bugg of Henderson County was named the Goalkeeper of the Year. Bugg allowed just 1.9 goals per match as part of a stat sheet that included three clean sheets and 4.6 saves per contest.

University Heights Academy coach Josh Nichols was voted the Region Coach of the Year. He guided the Blazers to an 18-7 record and the school’s first region championship since 2011 with three consecutive 2-1 victories in the region tournament.

Members of the All-Region First Team are Lester and Hayden Hunt from University Heights Academy; Bowley, Bugg, and Miles Pryor from Henderson County; Erick Hernandez and Alex Ramirez of Hopkinsville; Noah Mays, Dominic Blanford, and Nash Tapp from Madisonville-North Hopkins; and Colin Tumero from Caldwell County.

Members voted to the All-Region Second Team are Riley Dunlap, Jak Mitchell, and Jude Mitchell of Hopkins County Central; Efrain Juan, Manuel Salinas, Pascual Alonzo, and Harrison Warren of Webster County; Cal Givens and Lincoln Hauret of University Heights Academy; Kyle Yates of Madisonville-North Hopkins; and Nate Kelly of Trigg County.

Only players from schools that are members of the KHSSCA (10 of the region’s 12 soccer schools) are eligible to be recognized.
