Kentucky assistant coach Radvile Autukaite appreciates the way that head coach Kenny Brooks is “very hands on” with guards, especially point guards.
That’s why she understands how it was a logical decision for 5-foot-9 point guard Tonie Morgan to transfer from Georgia Tech to Kentucky her senior season to play for Brooks and fill the role All-American point guard Georgia Amoore had the last four seasons on Brooks’ teams.
“Coach Brooks is one of the very best, in my option, head coaches in player development, especially with point guards,” Autukaite said. “He’s been very hands on with her. He’s coaching her every day whether it is individual stuff, watching film or team stuff
“He has done a tremendous job with her to make sure that her progress to get acclimated to the team is faster because we are on a crunch timeline in some ways. I’ve been with coach Brooks for many, many years and what he does with player development is definitely the best in the country.
“I can attest to that. We go to see other practices and there’s no other head coach that can do what he can do on the court with guards.”
Kentucky needs Morgan to be elite and not be overwhelmed filling the role Amoore has had. She was a 2,000-point scorer in high school in Florida and was a two-sport athlete as she also competed in the long jump, high jump, hurdles and 4×400-meter relay in track.
Morgan played 96 games and made 95 starts at Georgia Tech where she scored 1,261 points. She also had 543 rebounds, 468 assists and 116 steals and earned all-ACC honors three times. She’s also currently projected as a top 10 pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
She averaged 13.7n points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game last season and shot 48.9 percent from the field. Her 5.6 assists per game last season were ranked 19th in the nation at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
