
Easton Bourland coasted to a second consecutive Class 1A Region 1 cross country title and helped the Dawson Springs Panthers finish in third place.
The junior covered the 3.1-mile course at Logan County High School on Saturday in a time of 16:49, finishing 56 seconds ahead of second-place Graham Conrad of University Heights Academy.
Four of the last five region champions (Bourland, Murray’s Gueverson Binfield-Smith in 2022-23, UHA’s Tomas Duncan from 2017-20, and Hickman County’s Nick Coffey in 2015-16) have been repeat winners.
Freshman Noah Riley came in third place in 18:15, while Preston Drennan crossed the finish line in 24th place in 20:27.
Seventh grader Levi Holt was 26th in 20:37, while Lucas Duke was 40th in 22:24, and Henry Clark was 51st in 24:27.
Dawson Springs saw its run of six consecutive regional championships come to an end with a third-place team finish.
University Heights Academy won its first region championship by three points (50-53) over Fort Campbell. The Panthers were third with 88 points.
However, the Panthers qualified for the Class 1A State Championship next Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The Class 1A boys’ race is scheduled for 3 pm.
