Tristan Coy became the third consecutive Class 2A Region 1 cross country champion and helped Union County bring home its first team championship since 1998 on Saturday.
Coy joins Trigg County’s Austin Cavanaugh and Webster County’s Ryan Rowland as the last three repeat champions in the region race. He ran away from teammate Thomas Davis to win the title in 16:17 over the 3.1-mile course at Logan County High School.
Davis finished in second place, 24 seconds back. The 1-2 finish, along with a 10th-place finish from Braden Todd, helped the Braves easily defeat defending champion Paducah Tilghman by 45 points.
Todd’s time was 18:09, while Kameron Davis came in 13th place in 18:33.
Layden Carr was 21st in 19:03, Hunter Crowdus came in 46th place in 21:03, and Henry Humphrey was 47th in 21:25.
The win gives Coy five top-five finishes this season.
The Braves will compete in the Class 2A state cross country meet Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The race is scheduled to begin at 12:30.
