
The Heritage Christian Academy cross country team made history on Saturday as they qualified a full team for the KHSAA state meet for the first time.
The Warriors came in fifth place at the Class 1A Region 1 meet held at Logan County High School.
HCA was the 5th of five teams to earn a qualifying spot as they finished with 115 points, nine points behind fourth-place Crittenden County but 23 points ahead of 6th place Murray.
Aaron Hensley scored a top 10 finish for the Warriors as he ran a time of 18:50 on the 3.1-mile course at Logan County High School to finish in 9th place.
Cadyn Travis came in 14th place with a time of 19 34 and 8th grader Ben Hensley was 27th with a time of 20:38 seconds.
Senior Kallan Davis, who earned all district and all region status for the Warrior soccer team, competed in his first cross country meet and finished in 34th place with a time of 21:29.
Two other runners competed in their first meet. which helped the Warriors qualify as a team. Freshman John Spurling was 38th in 21:38 seconds, and Jerry Spurling was 45th in 23:35.
Ryan Goforth notched a 44th-place finish in 23:28.
Easton Bourland of Dawson Springs won the race for the second straight year with a time of 16:49 seconds, and University Heights Academy won the team title.
The Class 1A State Cross Country Meet is scheduled for Saturday at 3 o’clock at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
