It’s been a long road back for Madisonville-North Hopkins runner Katie Gillette, but the senior will be able to end her career at the state cross country meet.
Gillette finished in 19th place at Saturday’s Class 3A Region 1 cross country meet at Logan County High School. Her time of 22:12 was fast enough for her to gain an at-large berth in the state meet.
Gillette missed the first three weeks of the cross-country season after rehabbing a leg injury. She last ran in the state meet two years ago and finished in 88th place.
Also running for Madisonville on Saturday was sophomore Neli Leal, who finished in 48th place in a time of 26:39, just missing a personal best time by 12 seconds.
Gillette will make her final cross country run on Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington at 10:45.
