
Hopkinsville’s Lauren Mayes made her final region cross country race a memorable one as she finished as the region runner-up on Saturday at the Class 2A region 1 meet at Logan County High School.
A senior, Mayes was trying to become the first Hopkinsville runner to win a region title since Aunye Christian in 2010. She finished 55 seconds behind race winner Mayci Moore of Webster County in 20:14.
Alexis Herrera Lovato also captured a top 10 finish for the Lady Tigers as she came in 7th place in 21:36 over the 3.1-mile course.
Kaydon Coats was 26th in 24:31, and Evelyn Bangert came in 31st place in 26:17.
Amerah Acree was 36th in 27:15, and Luanna Acree was 40th in 29:18.
The Lady Tigers finished in fourth place with 94 points and claimed the fourth and final team qualifying spot for the state meet by three points over fifth-place Union County.
Hopkinsville’s final run in the Class 2A state meet will be Saturday at 1:15 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
