Mayci Moore captured the Class 2A Region 1 championship on Saturday and became the first Webster County Lady Trojan in six years to claim the individual title.
Moore pulled away early and ran to a 55-second win over Hopkinsville’s Lauren Mayes.
She also ended a six-year streak of Callaway County runners claiming the individual title. Both streaks go back to Webster’s Reese Powell winning the 2019 title.
Moore and Powell are the only Webster County girls runners to win an individual cross country title in the last 25 years.
8th grader Paisley Stone (20:18) finished in third place, helping the Lady Trojans finish as region runner-up.
Webster County was eight points behind region champion Calloway County and seven points ahead of third-place Trigg County.
Alli Bell came in 16th place in 23:24, and 7th grader Emmalein Canterbury was 17th in 23:24. Two of Webster County’s next three runners were also 7th graders as Ellie Littlepage was 20th in 23:38 and Briley Benson was 24th in 24:20.
8th grader Adelynne Utley was 22nd in 24:16.
The Lady Trojans will compete in the Class 2A State Cross Country Championship that will be run at 1.15 p.m. on Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
