
The Hopkins County Central cross country team came in sixth place at Saturday’s Class 2A Region 1 meet, just missing a qualifying spot by five points.
Sophomore Landon Posey, who has battled some health issues during the season. showed he is nearing a return to form as he finished in sixth place with a time of 17:39. Posey will make a return to Lexington to run in the state meet for a second straight year.
Jaxson Adcock just missed a qualifying spot by one position as he finished in 22nd place in a time of 19:06.
Sam Martin was 24th in 19:12, and Alex Ray came in 28th place in a time of 19:30.
Todd Payne finished 43rd in 20:45, while Dominic Vignon was 52nd in 22:41 and Duncan Spiers was 53rd in 23:19.
Union County’s Tristan Coy repeated as region champion with a time of 16:17.
Hopkins Central totaled 123 points to finish five points ahead of Calloway County but five points behind Trigg County for the final team qualifying spot.
