
Trigg County got a strong run from its pack and qualified for the state cross country meet with a fifth-place finish at the Class 2A Region 1 race on Saturday at Logan County High School.
Trigg County finished five points ahead of Hopkins County Central for the fifth and final qualifying spot. They were 20 points behind fourth-place Webster County.
Sophomore Dominic Skinner led the Wildcats with a time of 18:35 over the 3.1-mile course to finish in 15th place.
Dekon Perry and Brody Renfroe combined to pass four runners in the final 50 yards, which proved to be the difference in advancing to state and staying at home. Perry finished in 20th place in the time of 19:0,3 while Renfroe was 25th in 19:21.
Sophomore Grady Oliphant also gave the Wildcats a huge race, running a personal best time of 19:21 to finish in 27th place.
Seventh grader Zane Marshall was 31st in 19:46, Grant Gallogly was 32nd in 19:41, and Max Disney was 40th in 20:32.
Union County’s Tristan Coy repeated as region champion with a time of 16:17.
Trigg County will compete in the Class 2A state meet at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington on Saturday. Their race is scheduled to begin at 12:30.
