After running in three state cross country meets, an injury caused Katie Gillette to miss her junior season. Following surgery and rehab, you can understand why the Madisonville-North Hopkins senior was emotional when she heard her name called as a qualifier for her final state meet.
Gillette has knocked over two-and-a-half minutes off her time from the start of the season, finishing in 19th place at the Class 3A Region 1 meet on Saturday.
