Kentucky plays its second exhibition game tonight against Georgetown and starting point guard Jaland Lowe likely is going to miss his second straight game.

He injured his right shoulder in a collision with teammate Otega Oweh during UK’s Blue-White Game and did not play in the win over No. 1 preseason Purdue last week. His injury is not expected to be a long-term issue but UK coach Mark Pope emphasized again Wednesday that he would not take any chances with the Pittsburg transfer.

“J-Lowe is gonna be in a little bit of practice today,” Pope said Wednesday. “A little bit of non-contact practice. We’re being really careful so he can be fully healthy when we start the season.“

Lowe went through some of the individual workouts but once five-on-five play started he watched from the sideline with injured teammate Jayden Quaintance along with starting guard Denzel Aberdeen. Pope did not indicate any reason for Aberdeen not going through the full practice.

Lowe wore a brace on his right shoulder during shooting drills and several sources have indicated he might do that as a precautionary measure after the way starting point guard Lamont Butler’s shoulder injury hampered him so long last season.

Lowe, an  All-SEC Third Team selection, watched as Pope turned to Aberdeen, Jasper Johnson and Collin Chandler to handle point guard duties in the 78-65 win over Purdue.

After tonight’s final exhibition game at 7 p.m. on SEC Network+ Kentucky will officially open the season Tuesday against Nicholls in Rupp Arena.
