The Hopkins Central Storm took on Crittenden County in the final game of the football season on Friday evening, but they were unable to get the win over the Rockets to end their regular season off on the right note. Crittenden was able to get the win 56-21, and they started early.
The Rockets began the game by taking the opening kickoff all the way to the Central 13-yard line, and they were able to capitalize with a Quinn Summers scrambling touchdown, as well as getting the two-point try. They followed that up by forcing a turnover on downs and throwing a touchdown this time, making it 15-0.
After the ball changed hands a number of times, including an interception thrown by the Storm, they were able to get the ball in the second quarter and break off a huge rushing touchdown with Kamran Harrison to get on the board. After getting their two-point conversion, all it took was a pick-six by Isac Earl to tie it at 15.
A big return from Crittenden to follow that Central score put the Rockets in good position, and Summers was able to put them in the end zone with a passing touchdown. But a missed PAT kept the score at 21-15 for the moment.
Then both teams exchanged scrambling touchdowns, as Summers was able to run in his second of the day, and Sylas Gunn was able to break off a huge 68-yard run to get the Storm down just 29-21.
But Crittenden was not going quietly, as Summers answered back with a long touchdown of his own, and his was about a 76-yard bomb to Caden Howard.
And to end the half, Summers was able to scramble into the end zone for his third rushing touchdown of the day, making it 42-21 in favor of the Rockets to end the first.
Another interception thrown by the Storm quickly made it 49-21 after the Rockets rushed into the end zone once again. And a dropped snap on the punt that was recovered by Crittenden in the end zone made it 56-21, all but sealing the game.
All it took after that was another interception to seal the win and spoil Hopkins Central’s final home game.
Summers had a huge day for the Rockets, throwing 243 yards and three touchdowns, as well as rushing for three as well. Howard finished with 117 yards and a touchdown, and Davis Perryman and Eli Lovell each had scores of their own. Running back Joel Bumpus also put up a touchdown with his 38 yards on the ground.
As for the Storm, most of their offense came from the run game, with Gunn putting up 97 yards and a touchdown, and Harrison rushing for 81 and also getting into the end zone.
This was Hopkins Central’s final game of the regular season, and their next game will be in the playoffs at Hart County on Friday, November 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
