Competing in the largest division at the Region 1 Cheer Competition, University Heights Academy finished in third place on Saturday at McCracken County High School.
UHA finished third in the Game Day Small Division, which comprises squads with 5-19 cheerleaders.
UHA’s score of 72.30 was 2.7 points behind region runner-up Calloway County. Winning the region title was Henderson County with 84.05 points in the 11-team division.
Saturday marked the first time UHA has competed at the region cheer competition since the KHSAA sanctioned the sport in 2012. The school won several national competitions in the mid and late 1990s.
The third-place finish assures UHA a trip to the KHSAA State Cheer Competition on Dec. 12-13 at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester.
