
Hopkins County Central’s dance team will be making a return trip to the KHSAA State Dance Competition after a first and second-place finish at the region level on Sunday in Owensboro.
Hopkins County Central won the region championship in the Pom Division with a score of 85.50, ending Henderson County’s three-year region reign in the division. Henderson finished in second place, 2.25 points behind Hopkins County Central. It’s the Storm’s first region title in the division since 2020.
The Pom Division consists of teams with 5-40 squad members with a routine that lasts no more than two minutes.
The Storm Dance Team also finished as runner-up in the Hip Hop Large Division. Their score of 90.03 was 2.12 points behind region champion Daviess County.
It was Hopkins County Central’s first time in the Hip Hop Large Division since winning the region title in 2018.
The Hip Hop Large Division is for teams with 15-40 members and must complete a program that lasts no longer than two minutes.
Hopkins Central just missed winning two region titles for the first time since 2018, when the school won the Large Pom and Large Hip Hop Divisions.
Dance regions comprise Regions 1-4 in other sports, such as basketball and softball, and include schools from Paducah to Owensboro to Bowling Green.
The KHSAA State Dance Competition is on December 14 at George Rogers Clark High School.
