
Madisonville-North Hopkins qualified a pair of teams for the KHSAA State Dance Competition following their finishes at the region level on Sunday at Daviess County High School.
Madisonville-North Hopkins finished as region runner-up in the Hip Hop Small Division with a score of 81.85, which was 4.78 points behind region champion Apollo.
Madisonville was seventh in the division at region last year.
The Hip Hop Small Division consists of squads with 5-14 members with a routine that has a two-minute time limit.
Madisonville also finished fourth in the Pom Division with a score of 82.68. Only 2.82 points separated places one through four. Last year, Madisonville was second at region and captured a ninth place finish at state.
It’s the eighth straight year Madisonville has qualified for state in the Pom Division, which consists of teams with 5-40 squad members with a routine that lasts no more than two minutes.
Dance regions comprise Regions 1-4 in other sports, such as basketball and softball, and include schools from Paducah to Owensboro to Bowling Green.
The KHSAA State Dance Competition is on December 14 at George Rogers Clark High School.
